Chana Daal (yellow chickpea lentil) poori

Assalamo alaikum,

These amazing and delicious poori were introduced to me by my dear ammi (mother),she make really good one , I tried copying her recipe and to my delight they came out really good.

I'm sharing this recipe and so you can also enjoy these delicious poori's

I made a lot of these poori ,you can always half the recipe for your desired amount!!

Ingredients:

3 cups Chana daal

6 cups durum Atta (whole wheat flour)

1 onion sliced and crisp golden browned

Zeera (cumin seeds) 2 tsps

Crushed red chilli pepper flakes 3 tsp

Ground black pepper 1/2 tsp

Ghee or butter 1/2 cup

Water to make the dough

Salt to taste

Vegetable oil for deep frying

Recipe:

Boil channa daal until tender,and grind into fine paste.

Add spices,salt and brown onion ,mix well.



Add flour to this daal mixture and then add ghee mix well to make a soft dough ,use water if needed.

This dough in the picture needs a little more kneading)

Let your dough rest for fifteen minutes


Heat oil in a deep wok,now at this point you can decide if your health conscious , to shallow fry or cook your poori on a heated griddle using little or no oil ,it will definitely not as tasty as fried version but it will be guilt free!!!

Ok then make golf ball size ball out of your dough and roll it out about 1/4 inches thick poori and deep fry on both side until golden brown on edges and middle,
Drain and serve with nothing !!yes this one is good on its own, but you can definitely serve it with sunny side up eggs on a delightful Sunday mornings and enjoys!!
