"Gers Ogely" Mena Cooking Club February 2015

Asslamo alaikum,

Its is really nice being part of Mena Cooking Club Mash Allah we have tried lots of  Middle eastern and North African dishes what fun !!this month the country of choice was Kuwait ,heard lots about it when i was young and  living in Karachi ,Pakistan one of my uncle use to work to there he still does and have heard lots of good words about this country, one day when i will go for middle east tour Kuwait will be on my top priority list in sha Allah!!!

In our challenge this month as usual we were given three different dishes savory, sweet and soup  so me being desserts person and a baking lover decided to go for the cake "Gers Ogely" this is a very traditional Kuwaiti cake and is flavored with Saffron , cardamom and rose water.Recipe was taken from here

Now lets talk about my experience with this cake i was really excited when i started making this cake all over internet and recipe tells how amazing fluffy and light this cake is but what can you say my experience was so so,not because of the recipe its all my fault (sob sob)i was trying to do this cake quickly and make some big mistake that cost me the cake,we have saying in Pakistan in Urdu that "the work that is done in haste is the work of saitan" ,i didn't melt the butter properly and another  major mistake not sifting the flour ,please don't judge me i love baking but was in a kind of hurry oops:(
My results i would not say a disaster but its was 50/50 situation cake looked great and smelled heavenly my home was filled the beautiful aroma but the texture of the cake not so fluffy and light but chewy and dense ,tasted great with powdered sugar sprinkled on top but the fluffiness  i was really looking forward to it but its okay that's how we learn, from our mistakes next time i will surely follow the steps in this recipe and in other recipes too in sha Allah!!
